Employment Situation in Turkey’s E-commerce Sector

With the increase in the number of companies in the Turkish e-commerce market, the number of people working in this sector is increasing in direct proportion. However, even though the number of employees is increasing, brands are still in search of qualified personnel.
In addition to small companies, large companies are also having difficulties in finding specialized personnel due to the increase in staff shortages. For this reason, staff turnover between companies can be quite frequent at certain times.
The survey conducted by ikidilim, a sales and business development agency offering turnkey solutions in information technologies, e-commerce and online marketing, by interviewing 250 e-commerce company officials in Turkey revealed interesting results about the employment figures of the Turkish e-commerce sector. In the research covering the first quarter of 2013, the departments where employees work most intensively are sales with 85%, finance and accounting with 58%, and content and visual methodology with 48%. On a category basis, electronics and computers ranked first with 32%.
The number of employees in these enterprises consists of 1-4 persons with 42%. Companies with more than 250 employees account for 4%. While 98% of staff training is provided in-house, training provided by consultants accounts for 48%.
The first criterion taken into consideration when hiring employees is acquaintances with 43%. Career websites ranked second with 42% and digital media ranked third with 13%.
